In recognition of the outstanding performance of our Democratic incumbents and the superb qualifications and records of service of our non-incumbents, the Ridgefield Press on Thursday endorsed the ENTIRE Democratic Party slate of candidates:
- Rudy Marconi, Barbara Manners and Steve Zemo for Board of Selectmen;
- Molly McGeehin for Town Treasurer;
- Dave Ulmer, Jessica Mancini and Paul Sutherland for Board of Finance;
- Karen Sulzinsky, Fran Walton and Doug Silver for Board of Education;
- Tim Dunphy and Phil Mische for Planning and Zoning Commission; and
- Jeff Lundberg for Board of Assessment Appeals.
The Press began it’s endorsements by noting:
“Ridgefield is a great place to live. It’s a well-governed town with an enviable quality of life and moderate taxes — no increase at all this year, and tax hikes in the 1% to 2.5% range most previous years, with a 1.15% decrease in taxes for the 2012-13 fiscal year, when a $4-million CL& P refund boosted revenues. That may be why First Selectman Rudy Marconi, though of the minority Democratic Party, is unopposed. It’s also a reason voters on Tuesday should … give Marconi the support of a team of fellow Democrats.”
Regarding the Board of Finance and Town Treasurer races, the Press observed:
“Without divisive and draconian budget-cutting, the finance board has managed to keep taxes reasonable — no hike this year, those increases in the 1% and 2% range, plus that 2012-13 tax decrease. With a record like that, the finance board’s three incumbents — Democrats Dave Ulmer, Paul Sutherland and Jessica Mancini — have earned voters’ support.
For town treasurer, Democrat Molly McGeehin is a certified public accountant with an impressive résumé of volunteer work and a communication style that combines a no-nonsense approach with a lively and welcome sense of humor.”
For the Board of Education, the Press recommended that “voters should support … Democrats Frances Walton and Karen Sulzinsky” for 4-year seats, noting that Doug Silver is unopposed for a 2-year seat.
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! Vote Line “A”, All the Way on Tuesday!
