Hebert’s Embrace of Trump is Disqualifying

Hebert Attempting to “Bait & Switch” Voters

Hebert Calls for Trump Re-election in a CT Mirror Article

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee calls out Bob Hebert, the Republican candidate for State Representative, as well as the Ridgefield Republican Town Committee, for playing hide-the-ball with Ridgefield voters regarding their support for Donald Trump. An article published in the CT Mirror on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, which discusses tactics being employed by Connecticut Republican candidates running down-ballot to distance themselves from Trump, includes a revealing interview with Bob Hebert.

Hebert, in the article which can be seen here, is quoted saying “We as a party support our president. We want him to win.” Hebert also makes the point that he and the Ridgefield Republican Town Committee strategically omitted the display of Trump signs in their headquarters, saying, “if I put Trump signs up in the window, it’s a trigger for some people.  We don’t want that.”

“A ‘trigger for some people?’” It sure is, said Katherine McGerald. “That’s because it discloses Bob Hebert’s support for Trump’s reelection, in full knowledge of Trump’s exhaustively documented record of monumental dishonesty.  Hebert must be aware of the Trump’s corruption in the use of his office.  Hebert must be aware of the Trump’s coziness with outright racism. Hebert knows of the multiple sexual assault allegations against Donald Trump, and about how Trump talks about women,” continued McGerald, “And Hebert must see Trump’s egregious cruelty to children and Trump’s continued violations of civil rights. That’s why Bob Hebert’s support of Donald Trump makes him an unacceptable choice to be Ridgefield’s representative in the Connecticut House of Representatives.Bob Hebert knows all of that about Donald Trump, which is why, by his own admission, he attempted to hide from Ridgefielders his support for Trump.”

“The Republican Party has repeatedly peddled the lies that 26th District State Senator Will Haskell and 111th District State Representative candidate Aimee Berger-Girvalo support school regionalization and termination of local zoning authority. This is wholly false,” said Joe Shapiro, Chair of the Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee. “It should be clear to everyone that Senator Haskell was the leader in opposing school regionalization in the State Senate, and Aimee Berger-Girvalo also strongly opposes regionalization and is prepared to lead on that issue in the House.” said DTC Chair, Joe Shapiro.

Bob Hebert’s failure to acknowledge his support for Trump because it is a “trigger for some people” leaves voters feeling that Hebert has misrepresented to them who he really is. Most voters recognize that we can’t afford to elect candidates on the local or national level who believe in dismantling healthcare, overturning marriage equality, weakening common-sense gun legislation, and taking away a woman’s right to choose; and who support a president who is unfit to hold office as their party’s leader.

In order to reflect the values and interests of Ridgefield, Bob Hebert and Kim Healy need to be rejected by voters. Aimee Berger-Girvalo and Senator Will Haskell are the candidates who embody those values and listen to Ridgefielders.
