On July 27, Ridgefield Democrats met in caucus to nominate our slate for the fall elections. Democrats enthusiastically nominated First Selectman Rudy Marconi for an extremely well-deserved 6th term, so that all of Ridgefield may continue to benefit from his outstanding stewardship.
To aid Rudy in the work of keeping Ridgefield on the forward path, Democrats nominated incumbents Barbara Manners and Di Masters for reelection to their seats on the Board of Selectmen, and also nominated former Board member and highly respected local businessman Steve Zemo for a seat. Ridgefield’s consistent ranking at or near the top amongst all Connecticut towns, has been a product of our Democratic majority on the Board of Selectmen, which voters no doubt will wish to continue.
Desiring to extend and enhance the town’s outstanding fiscal performance, Democrats also nominated their incumbent majority on the Board of Finance, Chair Dave Ulmer and members Jessica Mancini and Paul Sutherland, for reelection in the fall. Given the town’s widely envied low tax rates, excellent bond rating, low debt load, and sustainable financial position, Democrats are eager to run on their record of accomplishment.
For the Board of Education, Democrats nominated highly effective and hardworking incumbents Karen Sulzinsky and Fran Walton, along with challenger Doug Silver, an education professional with extensive experience in school evaluation and educational best practices. The election of this trio will provide a big boost to our already well-regarded school system.
In addition to the “big 3” boards, Democrats also nominated incumbents Phil Mische and Tim Dunphy, along with challenger Charles Robbins, for the Planning and Zoning Commission; Charles Robbins and Dwayne Escola for Zoning Board of Appeals; incumbent George Kain, PhD, a professor of criminal justice at Western Connecticut State University, and attorney Vincent Giordano, for the Police Commission; Jeff Lundberg for the Board of Assessment Appeals; and Molly McGeehin, a CPA who has served as a finance professional or treasurer for the Ridgefield Library and numerous volunteer organizations in town, for the position of town Treasurer.
“This is an incredibly deep and strong slate of leaders we have nominated for the fall elections,” said Democratic Town Committee Chair, Susan D. Cocco. “We look forward to electing them in November so they may continue to lead our town forward.”
